Advantages of Dog Training Collars
Nowadays, training collars are a necessity for teaching dogs to behave, specially for occasions where visitors are involved. As we all know, dog behavior needs to be at its best because there are laws that prohibit loud and long barking dogs, as well as neighbors that don't appreciate them either. It's not only loud and incessant barking that's frowned upon in most places, but also threatening behavior that dogs may exhibit when faced with strangers or a crowd. Therefore, the demand for training collars of several types has increased lately.
Chokers
These dog training collars are considered by some the most ethical of collars. They restrain dogs when they try to pull away from their leashes, and it can correct other types of behavior. These collars have proven useful for teaching young puppies or newly adopted dogs to behave when in the prescence of people or other dogs. Dogs learn that by not launching themselves at anything that moves, the choking sensation that the collar gives will be gone. Some collars have some protuberances for increasing the feeling on dogs that are particularly stubborn or with very thick skins. As soon as the dog eases on the pressure, the protrusions also lay flat back unto its normal angle.
Electronic Collars
These types of training collars emit a short shock which surprises the dog when it barks. There is a small device in this collar that detects vibrations in the dog's throat caused by barking. These collars are not cruel, since it's not an electic shock, like the ones seen in cartoons, but a static feeling, similar to the one we get when we walk on carpets. These collars are very practical and effective as long as the training is constant and supervised closely by the owner; just remember to take the collar off when training is over so that the dog can rest.
