what do you do when a puppy has a deep gash on its foot?
My puppy has a deep wide gash on its paw it is about 12 days old.It gets deeper and deeper .I put peroxide on and bandages.
the vet is closed
the gash happened yesterday the puppy is 12 days old
If it is getting worse, it needs to see the vet. If it is not bleeding the main thing is to keep it clean. Bandageing dog feet is VERY hard since they will chew it off, & since this pup is 12 days old it is probably still in a weaning box with it's littermates and all their feces-so keep the area it walks on spotless even if this means cleaning up puppy doo every 5 min and/or re-wrapping the paw frequently, just use alot of tape. I wouldn't use peroxide, it can slow the healing process, just keep it clean
